If you sometimes find yourself running out of motivation midway through your morning workout, or feel like your evening workouts are no longer hitting ‘the mark’, then you may potentially benefit from a pre workout supplement.
Here at Supplement Needs we know that everyone is different - which is why we’ve developed a series of pre workout supplements that are designed to meet differing training goals.
First up, we have the Supplement Needs Pre Focus+. This is a carefully crafted pre workout which is designed to potentially aid concentration and focus. In fact, with the addition of mushroom extract Lion’s Mane, ActiveTR™ Caffeine, CDP Choline, and Ginkgo this is one of the few truly nootropic pre workouts on the market.
It also contains other ingredients that have been linked by studies to potential aid concentration and focus. These include Alpha GPC, Acetyl L-Carnitine, and Huperzine Serrata (amongst others).
We have also developed Supplement Needs Pre Pump+. This is a form of pre pump supplement that’s designed to potentially increase blood and oxygen flow to working muscles during exercise. It contains 11 ingredients that are clinically dosed for maximum muscle vasodilation. More specially, pre pumps such as Pre Pump+ are formulated to boost production of nitric oxide within the body. Studies suggest that increased nitric oxide production can both dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow.
Supplement Needs Pre Pump+ has been formulated to include an efficacious dose of L-Citrulline (at 6,000 mg per 15 g serving). L-Citrulline is an alpha-amino acid that is an important precursor to Arginine (with Arginine being generated via argininosuccinate synthase as part of the body’s urea cycle). Arginine itself is an important precursor to nitric oxide synthesis - which, as we’ve seen above - has been linked to muscle pump. Other important ingredients within Pre Pump+ include AmentoPump® and Vaso6™ which are both proprietary ingredients that can potentially contribute to vasodilation.
In short, we believe we’ve created some of the highest quality pre workout supplements on the market.
However, amongst our per workout collection, you’ll also find supplements from other leading brands including Strom Sports, Trained by JP, Condemned Labz, Conteh Sports, Adapt Nutrition, HR Labs, Redcon 1, and Rich Piana 5% Nutrition.
So, if you’re looking for a pre workout supplement - your search has just ended…
What is ‘pre workout’?
Often simply called ‘pre workout’, pre workout supplements are typically powdered formulations that can be mixed with water to create an easy-to-consume pre workout supplement.
Whilst their effect varies from brand to brand, many pre workouts are designed to improve focus and concentration (typically through stimulating compounds such as caffeine).
Other pre workouts - known as pre pumps - seek to improve blood flow and vascular dilation so that the user can achieve ‘muscle pump’ just prior to and during a workout.
Many brands - such as ourselves here at Supplement Needs - produce both kinds of pre workout supplements which can be ‘stacked’ (i.e. used together). For example, our Supplement Needs Pre Pump+ and Supplement Needs Pre Focus+ have been specifically designed by Dr. Dean St Mart PhD to be used in combination ahead of a workout session.
As their name suggests, pre workout supplements are typically designed to be taken between 30 and 60 minutes before a workout (please check individual product descriptions for exact usage instructions).
What are the potential benefits of pre workout supplements?
The answer to this very much depends on the exact supplement in question and what ingredients/compounds it contains.
Here at Supplement Needs, our pre workouts - such as Pre Focus+ - have been formulated to include ingredients that have been found in scientific studies to potentially increase focus, concentration and awareness.
As such, pre workout supplements can potentially give you a mental and psychological boost prior to a workout.
Other types of pre workout supplements - such as the Supplement Needs Pre Pump+ - are designed to potentially provide ‘muscle pump’. They will contain ingredients such as L-Citrulline, which is a precursor to Arginine, and Nitrosigine® (a proprietary complex of Bonded Arginine Silicate) which has been shown in studies to ‘improve endothelial-dependent vasodilation in trained young adults’.
When should you take a pre workout?
As the name suggests, pre workout supplements are designed to be taken prior to a workout session. The majority of pre workouts are formulated to be taken around 30 minutes before exercise (although some specify 60 minutes prior to exercise).
However, it’s important to note that some pre workouts are designed to be ‘stim’ pre workouts - meaning they contain compounds such as caffeine to make you feel more alert and awake. Be aware of this if you intend to workout in the evening as this may affect your sleep.
