About Us
Built on honesty, hard work, and doing things properly.
40+ products. 70+ countries. UK manufactured. Fully transparent formulas.
Supplement Needs didn't start with a pitch deck or a launch plan.
It didn’t start with wanting to take over the world.
It started with quite simply, frustration.
Frustration over low industry standards, and a lot of honest conversations about why supplements had been made to feel so complicated.
Leigh started in 2015, importing premium US supplements to sell from his bedroom because the products he actually wanted weren't available in the UK. The more he saw, the clearer the problem became: too many products were under-dosed, too many labels were deliberately vague, and too many brands were built around profit margin instead of the customer. Endless tubs just to cover the basics, proprietary blends that told you nothing, products that looked good on paper, but didn't genuinely serve the person buying them. That never sat right with him, and it became the starting point for everything that followed.
Then came Dean.
In 2017, he was on the customer side of that same story. He was a loyal customer of Supplement Needs buying those premium imported brands. As someone deeply health conscious, it resulted in more than 30 supplement tubs which had taken over his cupboard (and caused friction in the kitchen with his wife). It was expensive, time-consuming to fill a weekly pill box, and far harder than it should have been. That's when the obvious question hit him: why has no one not just put everything into an all in one product and do it properly?
Then on one fateful evening in April 2018, that exact thought process started a conversation with Leigh in Instagram DM’s with the announcement of Supplement Needs own range. Dean proposed a 6 ingredient sleep stack to Leigh based on his success with it for his night shifts.
By May 2018 he'd joined the team as Formulator, and the frustration he'd lived as a customer became part of how the brand approached formulation from that point on.
One question changed everything:
Why don't we just put everything into one bottle, and do it properly?
No under-cutting of dosages or ingredients; no sacrifices to quality. True consumer health first as a priority.
That question became the foundation of Supplement Needs.
What started as shared frustration became a real partnership; built on trust, long days, honest conversations, and a flat refusal to take shortcuts. This brand was built the hard way, by caring enough to keep asking better questions and by refusing to accept good enough when customers deserved better.
Sleep Stack, the first product Supplement Needs ever launched, was built to solve a real problem and went on to inspire a wave of imitations. 2 vitamins, 2 minerals, and 2 amino acids; all completely natural and thoughtfully put together to improve on the nutrition and biochemistry of sleep naturally, without sedatives competitors used.
Liver Stack pushed past the old 500mg TUDCA ceiling - there was a reason companies were afraid to dose higher due to margin loss.
Kidney + Blood Pressure Stack used 8,000mg Astragalus rather than a token 1,000mg dose alongside 5 other ingredients.
Heart Stack packed 15 ingredients, all clinically dosed into 6 capsules - time friendly and without the deep monetary cost - exactly what Dean had set out to do.
These weren't products created to tick a category box.
They were created to raise the standard of an unchanging industry.
Leigh's Story
Leigh didn't set out to build a brand.
He was simply trying to get hold of premium products he believed in. He had seen athletes across social media and the world being sponsored by the “big brands”, but these brands didn’t have health values or supplements. They simply got their shred products, and then bought all their health supplements from Amazon or iHerb. It was simple for Leigh; he could fill this gap and make for a seamless experience for UK customers. What started as third party supplements being sold through Supplement Needs from a bedroom, started to grow.
But once he saw how much of the industry relied on vague labels, weak formulations, and customer compromise, he couldn't unsee it. Customers were being asked to accept less clarity, less substance, and less honesty than they should have. Supplement Needs grew out of that refusal to settle. Where many founders create a business because they see a dollar sign, Leigh saw a pain point that he knew he could fix.
What a lot of people connect with when they hear Leigh's side of it, is this: the brand didn't begin with hype. It began with standards and ethics alongside the simple belief that something was off within the supplement industry and worth fixing. That spirit still runs through everything the brand does today.
Dean's Story
Dean's involvement with Supplement Needs started the same way a lot of things do; with a problem that shouldn't have been as complicated as it was.
More than 30 tubs had taken over his cupboard. It was expensive, time-consuming, and frankly exhausting. That's when the obvious question hit him: why had no one created products that combine everything into one product and do it properly?
Then on one fateful evening in 2018, that exact thought process started a conversation with Leigh in Instagram DM’s (and as they say, the rest is history).
That night ended up shaping a significant part of what Supplement Needs became.
What makes Dean's contribution so valuable is that he holds both ends of it. He knows what it feels like to be a customer who's been let down by overhyped products, because he was that customer. But he also brings a level of scientific depth that's genuinely rare in this industry.
He graduated top of his university with a BSc in Chemistry with Pharmaceutical Chemistry before completing a PhD in Organic Chemistry and Fluorescence Spectroscopy. He's a Certified Sports Nutrition Coach and Naturopathic Practitioner. And in 2019, he was selected as one of just 650 attendees at the 60th Lindau Nobel Laureate Interdisciplinary Meeting in Germany - chosen from a pool of 80,000 applicants - where the world's leading minds across Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Medicine gathered to lecture and exchange ideas (he’s super smart, if you hadn’t realised).
That combination, someone who's been frustrated as a customer and has the credentials to fix it, is a big part of why Supplement Needs formulates the way it does. Not to impress on paper. To actually work. Every product has been thoughtfully formulated to improve the health of not just you, the customer, but Dr Dean’s and Leigh’s immediate family.
What We Built This Brand On
Radical transparency
Every ingredient, the exact form of the ingredient, the exact dose. Where a patented or trademarked ingredient is used, it's named clearly so you can research it yourself. Transparency shouldn't be a luxury in this industry; it should be the baseline. You won’t find proprietary blends (or as Dean calls them, “garbage”, here).
Backed by real science
Too many supplement brands are marketing companies first and supplement companies second. Supplement Needs was built the other way around; with intellectual rigour, a challenge to industry orthodoxy, and no interest in white-label shortcuts or marketing noise. Every product has undergone vigorous beta testing before launch; to ensure the principle is in the proof - something that has been re-iterated year after year with the results seen by customers.
Quality without compromise
Doing things properly costs more. We do it anyway. Premium ingredient forms, patented ingredients where they genuinely add value, UK manufacturing to GMP and ISO 22000:2018 standards, and Halal Trust certification. Dedicated Female and Vegan ranges built after recognising those needs were being underserved. Protecting you future health is in our best interest.
More Than a Supplement Brand
One bedroom, one customer, one honest conversation.
That's where this started.
It's now a brand with 40+ products in 70+ countries, and the core idea hasn't shifted: make supplements the way they should have been made in the first place. More than eight years on, Leigh and Dean are still just as obsessed with getting it right.
That obsession matters. It means caring about the ingredient form and the dose, the label and the formula, and whether a product genuinely makes life easier for the person buying it. It means choosing the harder route when it's the right one; and it means never losing sight of the fact that behind every order is a real person putting real trust in this brand.
For People Who Expect More
Whether you're here for health, performance, recovery, longevity, or simply to make better-informed choices, Supplement Needs exists for people who expect more from the products they buy. Our customers want more honesty, clarity, and care. They want thought behind every formula, because buying the product should matter more than the profit margin behind it.
